How long have you been CrossFitting? 2.5 years
How many days do you train a week? 4-5
What keeps you coming back? How do you stay motivated? After a long day at work, I look forward to completing a wod with my friends. Crossfit is my way to relax and relieve my stress and I always leave feeling better then when I walked in. The results I see and the way I feel after a WOD, friendship, coaches and my competitive drive to make myself do better are all the things that keep me motivated to go everyday.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness? Crossfit makes me feel physically and mentally better and has helped me re-build confidence in myself. I’ve played soccer all my life, ran track and loved to workout. I thought I was in “ok” shape until I did my first WOD and quickly realized I wasn’t as fit as I may have thought. Crossfit is challenging but so much fun.
What is the one thing you have done here that you never thought you could do? I haven’t been able to do pull-ups since I was in high school. When I first came to crossfit there was a lot of things that I could not do and everyone told me to give it time and work on it. It took me a year to learn double unders and two years to accomplish dead hangs and kipping pullups.
What is your proudest CrossFit achievement? The first time I did a prescribed WOD, especially Annie and Cindy. I’ve worked hard to get consistent double unders and deadhangs so the first time I could do them prescribed in a WOD, I was ecstatic. I knew my time would be slow, but I was still proud of myself for completing the WOD prescribed.
Name one future goal that you would like to achieve through CrossFit? My goal is to continue to improve movements that I modify such as pistols with a band and handstand pushup on a bar and hopefully do them prescribed in wod.
Any advice for new members? Listen to your coaches, they are your biggest motivators and cheerleaders. Push yourself to YOUR max, not anyone else, and never quit. The greatest feeling is knowing that you accomplished things you couldn’t do before like push ups, pullups, double unders, etc thru hard work and lots of perseverance.
What would you tell someone that says, ”CrossFit is too hard.” Crossfit is only as “hard” or as challenging as you make it. It’s all about setting goals for yourself and pushing yourself to your own personal max. Once you try it you will find it very addicting and fun!
Any additional comments: At my wedding everyone asked how I had lost so much weight and got in shape. My friends and in laws were commenting on my muscles and how great I looked and I owed it all to crossfit OIB, my coaches, and my friends I wod with. It wasn’t about loosing weight for my wedding so I could fit into my dress, although that was a perk, I wanted to start my new life and new year healthy, confident and happy with the way I felt mentally and physically.
